About a year ago I started planning a family reunion. Ryan and I live so far away that our kids rarely get to see their Parry cousins and with my parents serving back to back missions for our church it had been a long time since we were all together. I am so glad we planned this weekend together at our family cabin at Bear Lake, Idaho. Our cabin is 25 years old this year and was built by my grandparents. Lots of great memories of times with the Wheelwright family and my Parry family. Plus, Ryan's Grandpa and Grandma Matthews both grew up in the Bear Lake Valley so we have a strong pull to the area.
Here are some highlights from our weekend together.
Here are some highlights from our weekend together.
Oscar made his debut. He is my adorable, happy go lucky 7 month old nephew. A smile is always right below the surface no matter the mood.
Jack, Adeline and their cousin Willa, Oscar's older sister, got to play together in the big tub.So fun to finally have Willa and Jack together again.
Jack and Jill and Amy Beth.Jack loved all of his cousins. He was spoiled with attention from lots of little mothers.
Friday night my mom rented out the Oregon Trail Center in Montpelier, ID. It is a great interactive museum and after our tour we had dinner in covered wagons. Following dinner we went into the museum's movie theater to watch a slide show of our family through the years. (let's just say that as the 5th child and my poor brother, Steven, as the 6th child we were less than represented:). My nephew, Riley, scanned in pictures of the 25 years we've spent at the cabin and made a DVD for us all to take home. It was so fun to watch and the music brought back memories of our cross country trips from Wisconsin to Utah each summer. Riley couldn't understand why we would want Elvira on there but when the song started playing all of us kid started singing. Good times!
Ryan and I took the kids to Liberty, ID to see where their Great- Grandpa Matthews grew up and we visited the cemetery. Jack is named after William Kenneth his Great-Great Grandpa Matthews who went by the name Jack in his ranching circles. Jack's middle name is Doyle after his Great Grandpa whose grave you can see in the background. I know that Doyle would have gotten a kick out of our Jack. We certainly miss him.
I think this should be Steven and Danyelle's Christmas card picture. We spent many evenings sitting around the kitchen table laughing at old stories. It was so good to laugh together.
We're hopeful that Addy will take up lacrosse. Her cousins let her use their sticks.
Thanks for a great reunion!
